Ethos of the Department
The department aims to:
stimulate pupils curiosity and interest in Science.
provide students with opportunities to acquire essential scientific knowledge and the skills necessary to apply their knowledge in a range of contexts.
provide a positive learning experience in a child-centred, mixed-ability setting.
provide students with opportunities to make effective use of ICT to enhance their learning and understanding.
provide students with opportunities to become effective and independent learners.
The curriculum is designed to promote continuity and progression from KS3 to KS4 and to facilitate the study of science at an advanced level.
In years 8 to 10 all students follow an integrated program, incorporating exposure to all three core sciences. Students are currently time-tabled for four periods of Science per week.
The department is also involved in the assessment of the cross-curricular skills such as: "Using Maths" in years 8 and 10 and "Using ICT" in year 9.
Students also participate in collaborative learning activities throughout KS3.
GCSE students currently study either:
- CCEA Double Award Science (Unitised) – this course is delivered by subject specialists, across nine periods per week.
- CCEA Single Award Science (Unitised) – this course is delivered by subject specialists, across five periods per week.

- AQA AS and A2 Applied Science - Single and Double Award
