The Drama Department provides pupils with opportunities to explore issues explicitly relevant to real-life contexts. These experiences lead to the development of a wide range of transferable skills. Of particular value is the contribution of the subject to the development of skills such as communication, decision making and working with others.
Drama in Little Flower aims to provide opportunities for pupils:
To explore and use language, movement and theatre as a means of expression and communication;
To develop the abilities necessary to interact positively with others;
To develop practical skills in Drama;
To explore a wide variety of topics and themes;
To explore a variety of dramatic genres;
To be creative;
To listen to others;
To work as a team;
To encourage peer and self-assessment
At KS3 we cover a wide range of topics including:
In Year 11 we offer BTEC Performing Arts – an exciting new course to the department this year which encompasses;
Acting, Dance and Musical Theatre.
In Year 12 pupils study GCSE Drama and have the opportunity to attend theatre performances of shows such as “Blood Brothers” as part of their course.
Pupils in Years 13 study AS Level Performing Arts and our Year 14 pupils currently study A2 Level Drama and Theatre Studies. This is assessed through moderated performances, practical work, coursework and end of module examinations.
In February 2014 the Drama Department brought a group of twenty A Level pupils to London where they were treated to shows such as “Wicked” and “War Horse”. Pupils also had the opportunity to participate in a workshop and actually perform on stage in The Globe Theatre! This was an invaluable experience when preparing for their written examination.
